The retrieval system enables you to locate and display stored documents via your Intranet, Extranet, or Internet connection. You can't change the original documents in any way; however, depending how the system is implemented at your site, you may be able to reindex, add document notes, copy, print, or fax them from your PC. Additionally, you may be able to upload documents from your desktop into the archive.
To access the retrieval system, you need to launch a Web browser and go to the Web site created for your document retrieval. Depending on how your PC is set up, you may be able to do this in several ways.
This example uses Internet Explorer® as a Web browser. The procedure is essentially the same if you are using Netscape®.
Use one of these methods to launch your local Web browser:
Double-click the Internet Explorer icon on your Windows desktop or toolbar, or
Click your Windows Start button, point to All Programs, then select Internet Explorer.
The retrieval system requires only a couple of the buttons in the Web browser's toolbar:
The Stop button tells the system to stop seeking or loading information. Use this button if you realize you made a mistake entering search information, or if you decide a search is taking too long and you want to stop its progress.
Use the retrieval system's navigation links, such as the New search link instead of the browser's Back button to move back to the previously displayed screen. Doing so preserves previously entered search criteria or results.
A status bar appears at the bottom of your Web browser to provide additional information. For example:
"Connect: Host customer.documentportal.com contacted. Waiting for reply..." means the system is attempting to exchange information with the customer.documentportal.com Web site.
"Document: Done" means the system is finished creating the current display on your screen.
Use one of these methods to access the retrieval system Web site.
If you have previously bookmarked the site, pull down Favorites in IE's toolbar or Bookmarks in Netscape's standard button bar and select the bookmark entry for the retrieval system, or
Type the Web site's address into the Address box in IE or the Location box in Netscape, then press Enter.
The browser’s window will show the log-in page for your retrieval Web site.
Type your user ID in the first text box and press Tab to go to the next field.
Type your password
in the second text box.
Note—If you make a mistake, click Reset
to erase the user ID and password text you entered.
Click the Login
button or press Enter.
This dialog box is case-sensitive.
If your password is rejected, make sure your Caps Lock key isn’t
active.
Note—Some implementations may customize the log-on
screen, in which case it may appear different than described here.
The first time you
log in, you may be required to change your password
for security purposes.
